As part of the business benefit campaign, Batelco, Bahrain’s leading Internet services provider, has announced up to 50 per cent reduction on its business and educational inet broadband packages.
With effect from August 1, 2007, business customers can pay up to 50 per cent less in the rental charges of five value-for-money high speed inet broadband packages; - Business 512kbps volume package with 10GB threshold at BD75 per month, Business 1Mbps with unlimited usage at BD125 per month, Business 2Mbps with unlimited usage at BD175 per month, Education 1Mbps with unlimited usage at BD100 per month, and Education 2Mbps with unlimited usage at BD150 per month.
What’s more, Batelco is going to automatically upgrade its current business and education subscribers to the five newly reduced inet broadband packages on August 31 where they will not only enjoy reduced rental charges, but also higher speeds and enriched benefits. Letters will be sent to all existing Business and Education inet Broadband customers to explain the upgrade procedure and details.
“Batelco has previously promised its business customers to offer new and upgraded deals on Broadband services with drastic reductions, now we are delivering on our promises,” said Batelco corporate affairs general manager Ahmed Al Janahi.
“Batelco understands the needs of its customers for faster, cheaper and reliable broadband services. Through the Business Benefits Campaign, Batelco is striving to offer its Business customers better Internet services at the best value for money, and these recent reductions on the inet Broadband packages are the fruits of our labour”, he added.
The 50 per cent discounted rates will make Batelco’s broadband tariffs for businesses among the most competitive in the GCC.

Its great news that BATELCO has finally reduced ADSL rates by 50%. Its only now we know the extent of BATELCO rip off. They were perhaps operating on 400% margins and making all these millions. The TRA should fine BATELCO a few millions for ripping the businesses in Bahrain all these years.
And thanks to companies like North Star Communications and 2 Connect who started offering the same ADSL service at much lower rates which led to BATELCO dropping their rates.

Just now knew that there is a company called Lightspeed in Bahrain as a new ISP, www dot Lightspeed dot com dot bh (is the site), anyways, pretty much thats awesome, but does anyone know anything about them? I mean they fix the internet connection on the existing telephone connection from Batelco or…?
August 20th, 2007 at 1:07 pm
well , i went to chk in this ISP Lightspeed , but the problem they told me to apply and then after ten days (i might get the connection) not sure though she told me that.. when i asked is it sure after 10 days .. she told not sure.
Then I asked if i didnt like the service can i disconnect after like 1 to 2 months .. she replied no .. the contract should be one year.
I told okie and if i want to disconnect despite the contract she said i have to paid fees, so for sure i asked how much that will be? she answered dunno yet the company didnt decide. So i left disappointed and preferred staying with the Bat.. ” عط الخباز خبزه لو باق نصفه ” so i’m with batelco til they decide no limit .. i’ll upgrade my connection again. Anyone has a better experience please share us.. and prove me wrong.

I called light speed few days back as well and was diappointed with the fact that no one at the office had proper answers to quries. the lady sounded uncertain about most questions i had. Anyway, hopefully they are just gettign established, so once they are fully functional, i would go back and check.
Great news is that there is momentum in the broadband service offerings. with MTC and MENA going to launch as well, we would see different offerings. Bottomline is we need to see of monthly internet costs for residential and businesses fall to international levels.

i am a customer of lightspeed. i had signed up for their Silver Package(512kbps) on the 25th of August and recieved my username and password on the 20th of September. As of now i still have no inet. The call agents keep telling me to contact Batelco with my problem and Batelco keeps telling me that only my ISP(Lightspeed Communications) can help. Thus i keep bouncing back and forth between the two companies.
Plus they are an inet company that provides 24/7 internet, but their technicans are onnly available between 8am-3pm with holidays on Fridays and Saturdays.
Can anyone advice me with this problem??

hey if you want the same old BATELCO service for your company but at a discounted price go to North Star Communications or 2Connect. North Star does not even charge setup charges, where has 2Connect has BD50/- startup fee. you could save some moneys atleast.
I have heard many complaints about Light Speed, havent had the chance to use their service though. i think these guys are not established yet, or they are simply unprofessional.

I am using lightspeed and the connection is mostly stable.. though their customer support is horrible. The extension given in the business card isnt correct !!!
But to be honest far far far better than batelco and other telecom companies.. btw DO NOT TRY ORBIT… ITS HORRIBLE…

The situation here in Bahrain is pitiful
. Batelco officials think by cutting 50% on business and educational inet broadband packages that they have done a major favor for their customers
! Wake up and smell the coffee people! In Saudia Arabia Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) has announced 7.2Mb packages for 35BD while in Hon Kong a company called HKBN has announced 1Gbps unlimited with no thresholds for hardly 80BD!!!! Where is Batelco from that?
??? Bahrain is a small and a rich country, it is unfair and unjust to charge its people 60BD for 2Mb while in other countries they charge their people 80BD for 1000Mb…Batelco doesn’t even give 0.3% of what HKBN gives
. I am honestly hurt and offended by that fact, and I wish Batelco officials and managers take that into consideration and stop those blood-sucking-high-priced packages and give us more reasonable offers like the rest
of the world.
