A Bahrain company yesterday launched the country’s first four-dimensional communication service, which it says will revolutionise the way we use the Internet.
Nuetel Communications has created Quad Play, offering customers voice, Internet and Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) Internet Protocol (IP) VPN (Virtual Private Network) services.
Over a Next Generation Network (NGN), the service features broadcast TV, video-on-demand, Internet services, video surveillance and wireless access.
The broadband Internet packages offer unlimited, fully symmetrical service, which ensures equal download and upload speeds at no extra cost, with connection speeds ranging from 256 kbps to 10 mbps, says the company.
The service is aimed at businesses and private consumers.
Nuetel Communications has spent BD15 million developing the package and that figure is expected to double within three years as it pursues a targeted market share of 20 per cent.
Officials say the company is unique in that it uses its own infrastructure and facilities to provide innovative and intelligent service solutions to its clients.
“We have built a MPLS smart network that enables us to deliver voice, video, Internet and VPN services through a single fibre optic cable infrastructure directly to consumers’ premises”, said Nuetel Communications chief executive officer Labib Matta.
“For the private sector it will impact them in two ways, new types of service and lower costs.
“It cuts 39 links into one link and it then becomes more cost effective to set up a businesses in an area of Bahrain where such as service exists.”
Details of the service were revealed at a Press conference in the Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel.
Officials said it was too early to reveal prices but said the product would be competitive to the market.
The company is offering the service through strategic alliances with British Telecom (BT) and Cisco, which will provide operational and technical support.
Headquartered in Amwaj Islands, Nuetel Communications has been piloting the service to around 100 residents in the Al Marsa Floating City and Tala Island since September.
